Zarina: Story on Trafficking
A unique story of a lady that touches the heart and compels us to think that if you are determined to make a change in life then what you need is just to take a step forward.
Zarina at the age of 9 was trapped in trafficking and was sold in a red light area for a meager amount. That unfortunate event was not all she had to face lot more atrocities in life but she did not loose hope. Zarina is 34 year old and is determined to give a healthy environment to her two daughters to grow like any other child. Today both the daughters are making their mother proud. Saira at the age of 16 is studying in 3rd standard, can speak 6 languages and has decided to work for the rights of the sex workers. She is has started giving counseling to the children of the sex workers and motivating them towards education. Sumaiya 13, is all set to fly to USA for a language program and is extraordinary in her studies.
Zarina’s life story:
Zarina was born in a hamlet of Tamil Nadu; her father has wed three times. Zarina’s mother passed away and stepmother ill treated her and threw her out of their house. A couple lured her by giving chocolate while she was enjoying the circus in her village. They kidnapped her and sold her at Kamathipura district of Mumbai.
Zarina grew up as a sex worker there and one day a client offered to marry her. They got married and settled in Nellore, Hyderabad. She had 4 kids with her husband (3 girls and 1 son). Her husband is an alcoholic and was extremely abusive. Zarina after a few years managed to run away with 3 daughters and 1 son and came back to Mumbai.
Zarina is doing everything she could to keep her kids away from bad world in which once she was thrown. Zarina is one of the rare ladies working in kamathipura, as she tries to give every possible help to sex workers children not to live in that environment. She supports them with money find ways so that they study and become something in life. Zarina’s only wish is to see her daughters live a happy and respectful life.
Like Zarina, episode tell the tales of many girls who were trafficked from different corners of our country and also neighboring countries..Triveni Acharya of Rescue foundation is working in this field for the past 25 years. She was a journalist and when she did a story on sex workers ,she met a small girl and came to know that she was trafficked there she decided to rescue that girl. She took the custody of that girl and saw 5 more girls wanted to leave the red light area and she brought all the girls to her small apartment and started the rescue work from home ,today at rescue foundation more than 500 girls are given a bright future by Triveni.
Story of two sisters who were brought to India by their friends in a lure to play with the friends in the different fields at that time both the sisters did not know that those fields were in India and they fell in the trap. It is a story of two brave sisters who fought the racket and reached the Indian police for help and finally they are at rescue foundation getting back into normalcy from a state of shock with a hope to go back to their own country.
